about

Some words from the artist written after the August 23, 2020 shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin. (This track officially dropped months later.)

"Don't Think About It Too Much"
Why I Gave The People This Song
by EL BENTLY 448

"Too much patience turns to cowardlce."
—George L. Jackson

We had to drop these verses immediately after seeing yet more senseless shootings of unarmed Black men. Specifically, the brother Jacob Blake in Wisconsin. He was shot seven times by police, for no justifiable reason, in front of his three children by his car. Last I heard, Blake lies in a hospital bed handcuffed despite being paralyzed from the waist down. Yeah, that is bullshit and inhumane.

I salute the protests nationwide, even the march on Washington. No justice no peace! However, simple protesting is not getting the job done. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH...

My verses over the Drake beat were meant to do more than inspire a reaction from you, but a proaction to plan. A plan to use the scientific method to dig at the real root of the police brutality issue. Which is the same cause of all the systemic glitches against people of color, not only in the United States, but globally as well. DON'T THINK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH...

We all know that if we keep doing the same thing and expecting different results it is called insanity. It's time WE the People unite despite our petty differences. Whether you are an Israelite, Jew, Christian, Moor, Muslim, Rastafarian, Crip, Blood, Vice Lord, or Gangster Disciple: unite. Work together to shift the course of your local politics & government by putting your resources in the best interests of your communities. Community really means "common unity." DON'T THINK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH...

You must be prepared to fight for freedom & equality on all fronts. In your educational, entertainment, economic, labor, law, medical, military, & religious institutions. This is not an isolated issue — it's been out the bag. Use spiritual warfare in faithful action, not only in prayer. You have been Innocent, Born Guilty far too long. What are you gonna do about it? DON'T THINK ABOUT IT TOO MUCH...

lyrics

verse 1:
It felt like a dream, but really man it's a nightmare/ you see the game cold, but Michigan winters are not fair/ Now when haters see me man they all stare, thinking 'How he made it up outta there?'/ From a prison cell for 20 years, tears fallen from a top tier/ left hanging like a chandelier, i had to conquer a lotta fear/ stop pointing your fingers at brothers here, & realize you gotta look in self/ then i was blessed with a second breath, to prophesize like Enoch/ i'm feeling like i am the new Pac, cuz Yah blessed me with the ruach/ to move yall.. we were never made to bow down/ we were made to wear the Holy Crown, in Revelation it was all found/ these Biblical times, calling for spiritual rhymes, symbols & signs/ draw from your circles & lines.. squares & pyramids/ When you know who you are they are fearing it, for this they call you a heretic/ for embracing your Yisraelite heritage, the whole globe is your inheritance/ Nat Turner seen signs in the eclipse/ only freedom can really appease us/ we were brought over here on the slave ships/ America is the new Egypt

verse 2:
This'a liberation party, taking freedom like Robert Mugabe/ This freedom song for me & you, the people, everybody/ Love to Drew Ali, Garvey, & Moses, let my people go/ from in here & all over, that hocus pocus they tryna say that we not the people that's chosen/ we the breath of the Most High/ In Genesis it was spoken, haters trippin slippin on us like a transmission/ we the Birth of a Nation, Not D.W. Griffith/ Nate Parker we listening, Kaepernick no allegiance/ to the Star Stangled Banner, got us locked up in Indiana/ it's the New Jim Crow if you didn't know ask Michelle Alexander/ see we gon make it & we don't even gotta beg or borrow/ without a pull or sip from the bottle, we gon build brighter tomorrow/ that's on Torah my Creed, but don't call me Apollo/ i'm digging a tunnel outta this oppression like i was El Chapo/ in my low i was Sosa, when i weighed that bird on a beam/ now my thoughts are on high, let's free the people like a bird on the beam.
